The Valrose, a century-old legacy
The story began in the early 20th century with the development of the railway line built by the Montreux-Oberland Bernois Company (MOB).
The destiny of the Pays-d’Enhaut was transformed: railway opened up the region to tourists dazzled by its natural and cultural beauty.
Le Valrose opened in 1904 with the beginning of mountain tourism and quickly became an institution. The Cottier de Rougemont family was the sole manager for over a century.
At the foot of the Rübli mountain, the water of the Sarine River gently polishes its pebbles in the hollow of the verdant or snow-covered alpine pastures depending on the season. In the evening, the special red light gave the village its name.
You will fall under the charm of the Romanesque church built in the 11th century by the monks of Cluny, the 16th century castle and the narrow streets with their richly decorated traditional chalets. Time seems to stand still and only the charming small train and its miniature station connect this place to the outside world.
Sharing and passing on excellence
Decades have passed and Le Valrose has remained ever loyal to the inhabitants of Rougemont.
Generations have come and gone, gathered on the terrace in the summer and around the fireplace in the winter, putting the world to rights, sharing small and big joys. It is part of village life where a friendly family spirit is cultivated.
In 2017, a new family took up the flame after 3 years of renovation and extension works. Le Valrose is writing a new page in its great history but continues to remain true to its values. The institution remains authentic and warm, open to all for a morning coffee, lunch on the terrace when the weather is fine, or a pleasurable evening drink after a memorable day on the slopes.
The latest major development is the arrival in 2021 of the new directors, Sabine and Benoît Carcenat, Chef Meilleur Ouvrier de France 2015. The kitchens and the team are expanding once again to inaugurate La Table gastronomique du Valrose.
Accompanied by a dedicated and exceptionally talented team, they continue to fly the flag for the heritage and lifestyle of this century-old house.
